Hello! We are a small independent bookshop in Stow, in the Scottish Borders. We are no longer using Twitter, for obvious reasons, but could use some new followers on Mastodon and other social media channels - where our presence is smaller than on Twitter. Please help / share this is you can! Thank you.

Sections of the #UKMedia seem totally mystified how it is that #farRight grifters & agitators came to have such a hold on some people in the #UKRiots.

It’s almost like those people have been fed a diet of lies for years and can no longer distinguish fact from fiction…

Several far right #UKRiots. Based on false claims and fake material.

UK media are linking several violent riots in #UK cities, with disinformation, reversed #twitter policies under #Musk like replatforming #TommyRobinson, far right influencers, #generativeAI and Russian based hybrid division ops.

We have a moment of national conversation about the dangers present in poorly / un moderated (social) media. Several of the newspapers need to stop handwringing and look at their own cynical divisive output.

my hunch is this must be true, but i never heard anyone say it:

the fediverse has a toxicity problem specifically because it also has higher engagement, toxicity follows from engagement

imo a lot of the toxic people aren’t trolls per se, or at least not how we normally imagine them. but rather just people who can’t keep their trap shut. i.e. people who wouldn’t speak in a lower engagement space but do here because it seems to invite engagement and involvement

1: health risks to parent reduced practically to zero

2: no longer need to adjust exercise or commuting habits

3: much less effect on work

4: would make conservatives' heads spin

Making nanocrystals out of it and then somehow making sure those never make it out of the treatment process sounds like an engineering nightmare to me.

Dicho esto, en los 5-6 años que llevo en él creo que sí se ha diversificado en cuanto a las conversaciones. Al menos la parte hispanohablante. Aunque quizás es que mi red se ha diversificado? 🤔

En cualquier caso, es un círculo que se sale de forma lenta, no es fácil.

Hello out there, neuro-mastodon and beyond. I'm Jesse, a postdoc neuroscience researcher at Seattle Children's Research Institute.

I'm currently working on understanding age-related changes to intracranial electrophysiological signals, quantifying "mood-network" responses to emotionally-valenced faces in children, and thinking a lot about the interplay of communication within and between brain areas.

Having worked on spatial cognition, hippocampal-prefrontal physiology, and decision-making in rodents for grad school, I'm still quite new to the human ephys community, so please say hello if that's you! (Or if you'd like to talk about LFP/iEEG, vicarious trial and error, or ethological behavior!)
