@jonny I’ve had that happen to me before. It thinks one “Kysely<any>” is not the same thing as the other “Kysely<any>”. Why, though… no idea. Are there two different definitions of “Kysely” somewhere?

I truly do not want to hear from European conservatives about the need for speed governors, location tracking, and neutralizing the revolutionary capacity of ebikes because it's scary when they go fast. Please hesitate to say that ebikes are a mixed blessing because they simply aren't. Of course the materials have a colonial origin, but the lithium needed to produce an ebike is an unimaginably small fraction compared to an electric car. Of course electricity is still in many places nonrenewable, but the electricity needed to power an ebike is many orders of magnitude less than an electric car. The alternatives are bad while ebikes are good, and any attempt to neutralize that goodness in service of protecting a car-centric society is regressive, conservative politics.

Still far less deadly than cars, though.

And on the same subject I'll never forget seeing children in the children's hospital in Manchester with measles and mumps encephalitis and permanent brain damage (if they survived). We have largely forgotten the terrible toll that childhood infections took and need a wake-up call (and a visit to any churchyard to see the graves of those who died before vaccines).

I pity any Foundation doc these days who has to go through that.
Then as a GP I watched a similarly aged boy slowly fade away from SSPE, gastly.

@NatureMC aye, when I was a small child you often saw people badly affected by #polio in the UK, too. By the time I was an adult it had more or less completely disappeared from view – which I'm afraid must mean that a lot of the people who had been affected must have died.
Vaccination is SERIOUSLY good medicine – horrible diseases, including polio and #Smallpox, have ceased to be problems.
@simon_brooke@NatureMC And TB, which was endemic in Ireland; Madeleine ffrench-Mullen and Kathleen Lynn, who had served in 1916, started vaccinating infants; there was fury from the Catholic Church (and probably other churches) at the idea of vaccinations being provided by the state, as it was a father's job to pay for his children's health. Along with contraception, vaccination has radically changed Ireland for the better
