has anyone tried to do a handle-change within-instance preserving post/interaction history, at least locally? it seems like we should be able to just manually make the changes in our DB and then make a manual redirect for all the old URIs to the new URIs. It would be great to keep everything and sync across the network but keeping bookmarks, posts, (our representation of) boosts from the person's perspective, even if it's out of sync elsewhere would be fine.
@jonny AFAICT that's not how this works as all the posts get individual URLs and at best you can just redirect on your server, but it'll brick shut even if it's just links to posts.

C'est bien une app mobile, mais faudrait commencer par avoir du contenu à regarder sur cette app. Quand je parle de contenu je parle de contenu intéressant pas Gérard qui upload sa millième conférence sur le logiciel libre de 2h 30 avec son micro mal réglé (average peertube video)

It's absurd that gen AI is sold as a better search. Like, if you stripped out the "gen" part and used tokenisation to make a better search engine that surfaced original, citable snippets, that could be useful. If you had a way to rank signals that indicated quality answers that could be useful too. Hell, you could even parse queries for intent.
Wait a minute. This is all stuff that search was doing 15 years ago. The "gen" part is just fluff, a vector for introducing significant unreliability.
Mastodon users search is bad. I could't find user on a different server even though I knew their chosen name. I hope it will improve soon.

@wjmaggos I started operation #BulletTheBlueSky from my French end. Moderate success so far, <20 #Fédiverse accounts bridged in 10 days, but I did not count precisely.
Also went dragging #Bluesky people in, whom once were Fédi. Got <20 of them as well to follow @ap.brid.gy
So far, no one is really doing dual-account management = boosting posts from one account to the other.
Issue I see with adoption: people are cross-posting. They don't want to bridge, they want to copy and isolate their accounts.

How can someone change their handle on mastodon if e.g. it includes their deadname? Is there a way to migrate an account within-instance?
@jonny@neuromatch.social I suspect that if you went through the process of migrating an account, but it was from and to the same instance it would work. It honestly should be more straightforward than that process, but it’s not too bad.
