Every year, my country conducts a nation-wide mandatory intelligence test of all bike riders.
Here in the fall it is getting darker in the mornings, and everyone with an IQ above 70 pass the test by mounting lights on their bikes.
Those with an IQ lower than 70 can be overlooked in traffic — it is a Darwinian system really.
@randahl i would say (as someone who has ridden his bike to work for the past two years) that most people (while in the city) would be helped the most by:
- putting on a reflective traffic vest or wearing a reflective cycling jacket
- wearing a god damned helmet
It's scary the amount of 15-20 year old that just ride in their smart grey-black jackets with no helmet on. AND NO LIGHTS. I'm 99 sure it's because the helmet ruins their hair and the traffic vest looks uncool.

the one thing about surviving #cancer at an old age is that, chemotherapy does affect how your hair will grow out afterwards.
my hair has been growing out into irregular patches; so i have to continually cut my hair to even out how it looks.
my hair is super curly and at one point, when flattened out, it reached below my shoulder blades. now, i have to keep it in a short fro to not look like a blackish Patchy The Clown.
but am still cancer-free ☺

If it didn't mean that I would become a pariah and be the end of my career, I would have submitted a paper with absolutely zero experiments or data underlying it where the paper is the sole artifact and you have to just take my word for it years ago just to prove a point. Without code and data, there is no difference between high-concept science fiction with very strong Academic Genre trappings and actual science. Convincingly faking a paper at the figure level is easy, convincingly faking a paper all the way down to the raw data and the commit history in an analysis repo is hard. You are making a claim about how the world works, and it is your responsibility to convince me, not my responsibility to believe you.
