@jonny wow they’ll get exposure!
@jonny
not an expert but that's a hell of a good movie!
In 77 CE, Isalnd of Anglesey, was a place of resistance to Roman rule because it was an important centre for the Celtic Druids and their religious practices. Tacitus writes "On the shore stood the opposing army with its dense array of armed warriors, while between the ranks dashed women, in black attire like the Furies, with hair dishevelled, waving brands. All around, the Druids, lifting up their hands to heaven, and pouring forth dreadful imprecations, scared our soldiers by the unfamiliar sight, so that, as if their limbs were paralysed, they stood motionless, and exposed to wounds."
"Then urged by their general's appeals and mutual encouragements not to quail before a troop of frenzied women, they bore the standards onwards, smote down all resistance, and wrapped the foe in the flames of his own brands. A force was next set over the conquered, and their groves, devoted to inhuman superstitions, were destroyed."

Reading about this now, this context sets it up somewhat as a revenge against colonialism story, the return of the Christians

As an almost lifelong witch, I can tell you that, so long as you are watching the one with Edward Woodward, there is really only one thing wrong with it, and that is they did not make it clear to him that he had the option to say he was not willing.

I will say this, I never really "got" what the May Pole was about, until I saw it done with a wreath....
@jonny That would be me. I'd be glad to help. When is it?
@Ooze
Omg yes. It is Sunday at 6PM Pacific, pretty informal - we just start the movie at roughly the same time and then post to the hashtag with public visibility (so it shows up in the hashtag feed). Me and @Taweret can boost your posts so the rest of the folks can see em :). No obligation but we'd love to have ya along ♥

I think it would be really cool to in general have film history ppl, or when a movie is centered around folklore or mythology experts in knowing those things around. To merge the joys of shitposting about a movie and also knowing stuff about the world and the people in it and the things they believe
