The factory was planned there by the authorities from the outset because it was a timber plantation and monoculture. German law obliges Tesla to carry out compensatory planting. In return, they are reforesting more climate-resistant mixed forests. @SallyStrange 2/2 Unfortunately, neither the Guardian nor Quartz (referring to the former) have investigated whether Musk has fulfilled his duty to reforest and to what extent. The latest figures from the state are out of date.
The count mostly in hectar: for 173 ha of clearcut he must reforest 294 ha. The company areal has 300 ha according to Wikipedia.

@SallyStrange You're welcome. I'm very much interested in what he *really* reforested. I just found out that the official inspection date of the forestry authorities will be in 2026. They need these years to check if the reforesting is still alive.

@NatureMC@SallyStrange Have there been protests against other car manufacturers in Germany? I’d say the protesters should concentrate on the fossil fuel industry and those who make ICE vehicles?
@jramskov Of course, we have climate protests in Germany and most of the protesters glue themselves on the roads and protest against fossil fuels!
The protests against Tesla must be seen in a differentiated way: Not all of them were directed against environmental offences, but rather against Musk as a person. For example, left-wing radicals made sabotage on the electric grid. And a second problem: the German government subsidised the plant at this location from the outset
