Here is an interesting study (pre-print @ arxiv.org, [Submitted on 15 Oct 2025]) about the Impact of AI Tools on Learning Outcomes. doi.org/10.48550/arXiv.2510....
The authors specifically say "⋆Preliminary version, DO NOT CIRCULATE.".
They performed a randomized experiment in 2025 at their facility and divided students into "AI Allowed" and "No AI" groups for an Operations Research course. Interestingly, the students were not happy about this study and there was controversy and protest. However, it seems the authors observed Knowledge Collapse for students relying on AI (20–40 % drop in actual knowledge retention compared to prior years), Over-Reliance and Disconnected Learning. On several tests, scores were barely better than random guessing.
